The cycle of violence in Muzaffarpur took a dramatic turn as Govind Sharma, the main accused in the 2018 assassination of former Mayor Sameer Kumar, was murdered in a brazen daylight attack. The shooting took place at the Icon Tower, where Sharma resided in a rented apartment. According to witnesses, the shooters had been tracking his movements and struck just as he was entering his residence after a trip to Patna. This incident is widely seen as a revenge killing aimed at settling old scores. Sharma's criminal history was extensive, most notably involving the use of an AK-47 to kill former Mayor Sameer Kumar in a hail of bullets years ago. He was also a primary suspect in the 2023 murder of property dealer Ashutosh Shahi. The brazen nature of his own assassination highlights the ongoing volatility of gang rivalries in the district. Following the attack, forensic experts were called to the scene to collect DNA samples and ballistic evidence. The police are currently scanning CCTV footage from the vicinity of Icon Tower to identify the two men involved in the shooting. The victim's wife, who arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, was seen in a state of deep distress as the police moved the body for post-mortem. Authorities believe that this murder is a direct fallout of a long-standing turf war between rival factions involved in property dealing and local politics.
