A new chapter is set to unfold in the sports history of Bihar. Following the Sepaktakraw game, rugby is now joining the ranks. The state is no longer just an aspirant; it’s welcoming top rugby nations from Asia. This event will take place in Rajgir, a historic city in Bihar. The Asia Rugby Under-20 Sevens Championship 2025 is scheduled for August 9th and 10th. This event will establish Bihar and rugby on the global stage. Eight men’s and eight women’s teams will compete in this grand tournament. The top rugby nations in Asia, including India, Hong Kong, China, the UAE, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia (men only), and Nepal (women only), will showcase their skills. Former rugby player and film actor Rahul Bose has expressed his happiness regarding the event in Rajgir. Teams will begin arriving in Rajgir on August 7th to prepare for the international tournament on August 9th and 10th. The event will feature a vibrant opening ceremony on August 8th at the Rajgir Sports Complex’s Kabaddi Hall, celebrating Bihar’s cultural richness and sporting spirit. Only the top 8 ranked teams from the 32 rugby-playing nations in Asia are participating in this prestigious championship. This will be a showcase of the best young rugby players in Asia. This event is particularly significant for Bihar, as rugby is among the 14 priority sports. The Bihar women’s team recently won a silver medal in the National Games. Additionally, the boys’ and girls’ teams won championships in the junior, sub-junior, and senior categories at the School Games. Players from Bihar will also represent the Indian team in this tournament, inspiring the state’s youth.
