SC Rejects Wedding Plea, Anant Singh's Bail Cancelled in Murder Case

The Supreme Court has cancelled the bail of Anant Singh, the Mokama MLA, in the murder case of Dularchand Yadav, dealing a serious blow to the legislator who had secured relief from the Patna High Court earlier this year.

Justice MM Sundaresh and Justice PV Varale, while giving the judgment, said the killing could not be seen merely as a political controversy. The bench also observed that the High Court had ignored Singh's previous criminal record while granting bail.

The court has directed Singh to surrender before December 1. It said the investigation is still underway and witnesses will be examined during the trial, making it necessary for the accused to be in custody.

Singh had sought more time to surrender, citing his daughter's wedding. The court did not accept this request and insisted on the surrender order.

The Supreme Court had been approached by the family of Dularchand Yadav against the Patna High Court order. The Bihar government also presented its case, filing an affidavit in the third week of October.

In its affidavit, the state said that after supervision at the SDPO and SP levels, a chargesheet had been filed in January 2026 against Anant Singh, Manikant Thakur and Ranjit Ram. The government also pointed to 62 cases against Singh, covering murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, extortion and Arms Act charges.

The state contended that the accusations in the Dularchand murder case were found to be credible and that Singh should not remain outside jail. It sought cancellation of bail, and the apex court took note of these arguments in its order.

The police have been asked to complete the probe within four months. The verdict means Anant Singh will have to return to jail in connection with the case.
