An investigation into a cyber fraud involving SIM boxes has led to the seizure of four SIM box devices in the Bhojpur district of Bihar. Authorities arrested a suspect, identified as Mukesh Kumar, in connection with the case. The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) conducted a raid in Narayanpur village, uncovering the SIM boxes along with a laptop and an internet router. Further investigation is underway, with searches continuing to identify other individuals involved. Preliminary findings suggest that the SIM boxes were used to convert international calls into local calls, facilitating fraudulent activities. It’s estimated that thousands of fraudulent calls were made daily, causing substantial revenue loss for the central telecom ministry. The investigation has also revealed the involvement of telecom service providers’ distributors and retailers, who allegedly misused biometric data to obtain SIM cards fraudulently. These SIM cards were then utilized in the SIM box operation for illicit purposes.
