With Bihar’s upcoming assembly elections later this year, political activity in the state is intensifying. Tej Pratap Yadav, the elder son of Lalu Yadav, has announced his separation from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the formation of a new party. The party is named ‘Janshakti Janata Dal’. On Monday, August 17th, he visited the Election Commission to register the party.
Tej Pratap Yadav, along with the president and secretary of the Janshakti Janata Dal party, met with the Chief Electoral Officer. The party was reportedly formed in 2020. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Balendu Das, a close associate of Tej Pratap, contested the elections from the Janshakti Janata Dal party. He was given the flute as the election symbol.
Tej Pratap arrived at the Election Commission with all the essential documents. The Election Commission had recently issued notices to several parties in the state, instructing them to renew their registration with the necessary documents. Speculation arose whether Tej Pratap Yadav would be the leader of Janshakti Janata Dal.
It’s reported that on Monday, Janshakti Janata Dal received recognition from the Election Commission. Tej Pratap is said to have spoken with the Chief Electoral Officer for approximately 30 minutes and registered the party in his name.
However, when Tej Pratap Yadav emerged from the meeting and was questioned by the media, he stated that he had come to meet the election officer regarding the issue of removing voters’ names from the Mahua assembly constituency.
On the same day, Tej Pratap Yadav also commented on the vote-rights journey being undertaken by Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav in Bihar. Tej Pratap Yadav stated that this journey would not be beneficial. He said that issues such as employment and education should be addressed. He mentioned that Rahul and Tejashwi are wasting time by taking up the issue of ‘SIR’.
