Panic gripped a shop in Vaishali district, Bihar, when a 10-foot-long venomous cobra was spotted. People, terrified, immediately contacted Shrawan Kumar, a snake catcher. After three hours of careful work, Shrawan rescued the snake, drawing a large crowd. Shrawan revealed he’s been catching snakes since 2019, rescuing numerous species. The cobra attempted to strike during the rescue, but Shrawan handled it safely. Alongside his passion for snake rescue, he also works as a rural physician. He has traveled to various districts, including Vaishali, Chapra, Muzaffarpur, and Patna, to capture snakes, releasing them in safe forests. He has captured cobras, common kraits, Russell’s vipers, and other species, including two-headed snakes and black cobras. Shrawan emphasizes that his work is driven by a deep love for snakes, stressing the importance of protecting them for environmental reasons. He has been bitten twice during rescues but recovered fully and has successfully rescued hundreds of snakes.
