The banks of the Ganges in Patna's Barh subdivision witnessed heart-wrenching scenes on Wednesday morning following a fatal boat mishap. Seven individuals lost their lives when a country boat, primarily ferrying women farmers, capsized near the Umanath Ganga Ghat. These farmers were making their daily commute to the fertile Diara lands for agricultural work, which remains the primary source of livelihood for families in Bind Toli. The tragedy struck when the boat encountered turbulent weather and strong currents. Administrative officials, including the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Garima Lohia, reached the site promptly to oversee the emergency response. The SDRF teams have been working tirelessly to search the river for those still unaccounted for, highlighting the ongoing dangers faced by the rural population reliant on small boats.
