Villagers assault Gopalganj school principal amid harassment claims

Residents of a village near the Baghaji government school in Gopalganj took matters into their own hands after hearing that the principal, Sanjay Kumar Trivedi, had allegedly asked an eighth‑standard girl for her phone number and promised academic favors in exchange for a night‑time meeting.

The community members seized the principal as he left the school premises, restrained him and subjected him to a beating. Law enforcement officers responded to the disturbance, detained the principal and began a formal inquiry. Police are now interviewing the student, her parents and the villagers to ascertain the validity of the allegations.

Local leaders have called for calm and stressed the importance of allowing the legal process to run its course while ensuring the safety of all students.
