As the festive season of Diwali approaches, the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Indian Army have significantly amplified security measures along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB). Emphasizing the paramount importance of national security, officials have stated, ‘National security is our Diwali.’ This heightened vigilance is a direct response to intelligence warnings about potential drone attacks and infiltration attempts by Pakistan-based terrorist groups during this sensitive period.
Border districts, including the strategically important Gulmarg sector in Baramulla, have been declared ‘No Drone Fly Zones.’ The primary concern revolves around the possibility of drones being used to carry explosives or for surveillance purposes, targeting security installations. Furthermore, intelligence suggests a surge in infiltration attempts is anticipated before the winter snowfall renders mountain passes inaccessible.
To combat these threats, the BSF has deployed advanced anti-drone systems capable of both jamming enemy communications and neutralizing aerial threats. Surveillance capabilities have been boosted with integrated systems featuring advanced cameras, sensors, alarms, and night-vision technology. Complementing these technological measures, smart fencing, robotic surveillance, and continuous 24/7 patrolling are in effect. Dedicated ambush patrols are strategically positioned in known infiltration hotspots to intercept any attempts to cross the border.
Recent operations have already seen success, with security forces thwarting two infiltration bids in Kupwara in the past week, neutralizing four terrorists. These operations underscore the robust coordination between the BSF, Indian Army, and Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Despite the demanding circumstances and constant alertness, BSF soldiers are also embracing the spirit of Diwali. They are celebrating the festival on the front lines, sharing moments of joy with fellow soldiers and families through traditional rituals, prayer, and camaraderie. This blend of unwavering duty and festive spirit highlights their dedication to safeguarding the nation while upholding the values of unity and patriotism.
