Chandigarh commuters should brace for significant traffic disruptions today, November 26, as the city hosts a large farmers’ rally organized by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM). This event commemorates the fifth anniversary of the 2020 ‘Delhi Chalo’ movement, with expectations of over 10,000 farmers converging in the city, many arriving via tractor-trolleys from Punjab. Chandigarh Police have implemented comprehensive traffic restrictions and diversions to manage the influx and minimize public inconvenience. The primary focus of the agitation and resulting traffic management will be Sector 43, specifically the Dussehra Ground, where the SKM has been granted permission to hold their rally. Authorities have deployed over 1,000 police personnel in and around Sector 43, alongside multiple check posts at key junctions like Attawa Chowk and a reserve police force for immediate backup. Key routes to avoid include the stretch from Kajheri Chowk to the Sector 42/43 Small Chowk, and further up to Attawa Chowk. Additionally, significant diversions are in effect from the Sector 43/44 light point towards the Judicial Academy light point and up to the Sector 42/43 Small Chowk. Residents are strongly advised to seek alternative routes throughout the day to avoid these affected areas and potential delays.
