In a decisive move against Kerala’s growing drug menace, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala unveiled 'Operation Toofan – The Narco Hunt' on Saturday. The statewide initiative targets drug networks preying on students in schools and colleges. Speaking after his first high-level meeting with top police officers, Chennithala made it clear that the government will show no leniency toward narcotics syndicates. He called the drug mafia one of the gravest threats facing the state and pledged a sustained campaign to dismantle these criminal outfits completely. The minister highlighted how gangs are increasingly targeting educational institutions, making the anti-drug fight a pressing social priority. As part of the operation, authorities will crack down on tobacco sellers operating near campuses. Chennithala appealed to the public to actively assist police by reporting any suspicious movements in their localities. He also instructed the state police chief to establish close coordination with neighboring states to break inter-state drug supply routes. In addition, the minister announced plans to revamp all 484 police stations across Kerala, aiming to create a more humane and approachable police system. He further ordered the immediate removal of abandoned vehicles cluttering police station compounds.
