In a significant development for law enforcement, 50 Maoist cadres, including a substantial contingent of 32 women, have surrendered in the Kanker district of Chhattisgarh. This mass surrender occurred at the Kamtera camp of the Border Security Force’s 40th Battalion, located within the Koyalibeda police station limits. The group laid down 39 weapons as they renounced their association with the insurgency. This move is anticipated to create a considerable rift within the Maoist network in the Maad region. The surrender ceremony saw the participation of senior Maoist commanders Rajman Mandavi and Raju Salam, alongside other high-ranking members. Among the 50 individuals were five DVCM-rank Maoists and 21 ACM-level cadres, indicating the importance of this operation. This is believed to be the initial wave of surrenders from the northern Maad region, with expectations of around 120 more cadres laying down arms in Bijapur’s Bhairamgarh area soon. Security forces continue to bolster their efforts to encourage further defections.
