In Kanker, Chhattisgarh, three panchayat secretaries have been suspended for negligence in the construction of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PM Awas Yojana) houses. Additionally, the salaries of two secretaries have been withheld, and notices have been issued to six others. District Panchayat CEO Hares Mandavi reviewed the progress of the housing projects, emphasizing the need to complete the construction within the stipulated time frame. He directed officials to ensure timely availability of construction materials and encourage beneficiaries to complete the construction. Instructions were also given to encourage more youths to participate in masonry training programs. Following the review, suspensions were ordered for the panchayat secretaries of Kullaharkatta, Mulle, and Devgaon villages. Furthermore, salaries were withheld for secretaries of Belgal and Lakshmipur, and notices were issued to secretaries from Ghotha, Chavela, Dumali, Sarangpal, Bande, and Damkasa. Out of 29,207 houses approved under the PM Awas Yojana in the district from 2016-24, 26,643 have been completed. For 2024-25, the district has a target of 37,932 houses, of which 30,103 have been approved and construction has begun. A total of 5,262 houses have been completed, and 24,841 are under construction. Beneficiaries receive a total of Rs 1.20 lakh in three installments through DBT, with funds released at various stages of construction.
