Big initiative for the protection of stray cattle in Chhattisgarh

1460 Gaudham will be established in the state

Raipur, The Chhattisgarh government is implementing the 'Gaudham Yojana' in a phased manner to provide safe shelter to stray and destitute animals in the state, promote cow protection, and strengthen the rural economy. Under the scheme, a target has been set to establish a total of 1,460 Gaudhams across the entire state.

1460 Gaudham will be established in the state

For the management of stray and destitute livestock, the Chhattisgarh State Gau Seva Aayog, Raipur, has approved the establishment of 1460 Gaudhams under the Gaudham Yojana. Gaudhams will be developed by selecting 10 excellent Gauthans in each development block. Out of 408 applications, administrative approval has been given to 151 applications. Registration of 88 Gaudhams has been completed so far. Currently, about 5,109 stray animals are being protected in 42 operational Gaudhams.

Priority to Gauthans near National Highways

According to information received from the Joint Director (Veterinary Services), in the first phase, Gauthans located near national highways and where all necessary infrastructure is complete have been selected. The Gaudhams will be operated by voluntary organizations, registered cow shelters, NGOs, FPOs, and trusts. Recently, the Animal Husbandry Department amended the rules and gave priority to Gram Panchayats in the operation of Gaudhams. Besides, urban Gauthans have also been included in this scheme.

Transparent process of selection and approval

The process for establishing Gaudhams has been made very strict and transparent. After the recommendation of the district level committee and the collector, a no-objection certificate is taken from the Gram Panchayat. After physical verification, applications are sent to the Chhattisgarh State Gau Seva Aayog. The implementation committee of the Aayog reviews these applications in detail in its meeting held every 3 months. After the review, applications are sent to the government for final administrative approval, after which the contract and registration process is completed.

Rural and agricultural economy will get a boost

The government believes that cows are the main આધાર of our rural culture and agricultural system. With Gram Panchayats getting the right to operate and urban Gauthans being added to the scheme, the number of Gaudhams will increase further in the future. Currently, applications are continuously being received from various districts for the establishment of new Gaudhams, on which prompt action is being taken.
