An 86-year-old man in Rajnandgaon district, Chhattisgarh, has died from a COVID-19 infection, marking the first death in the state linked to the new variant. The deceased, identified as Sonraj Golchha, was a resident of Azad Chowk in the city. He was admitted to a private hospital in Raipur for treatment, where his COVID test came back positive. He had pre-existing conditions including hypertension and high blood sugar. The death occurred on Saturday during treatment. The news comes as the country sees a surge in cases of the new variant, causing concern within the health department. Over the past 24 hours, India has recorded 11 deaths related to COVID-19, the second consecutive day the death toll has exceeded 10.
