The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested four people, including the Chief Engineer (IRSE: 2000) of South East Central Railway, Bilaspur, for taking a bribe of Rs 32 lakh. The other arrested include a family member of the officer, managing director of a private company and an employee of the said company. This action was taken after breaking the network of corruption between railway contractors and officials.

The CBI had registered a case against the Chief Engineer, the private company, its managing director and the employee. It is alleged that the Chief Engineer took a bribe to give unfair benefits in the contracts and work orders of the railway in favor of the private company. This amount was received by his family member in Ranchi on his instruction.
Investigation revealed that the private company was doing various construction work for the South East Central Railway, including small bridges, railway over bridges (ROB), Railway Under Bridge (RUB), and track lining. The Managing Director had told his son that a bribe of Rs 32 lakh was fixed after meeting with the Chief Engineer, so that the pending cases of the company could be dealt with in his favor.
The CBI caught the Chief Engineer on 25 April 2025, when his family member accepted a bribe of Rs 32 lakh from a private company representative in Ranchi. The CBI recovered the amount of bribe from the possession of the family member.
At present, a search operation is going on at many places including Bilaspur and Ranchi. Many objectionable documents and cash have been recovered during the search. The investigation is still on.
