The Chhattisgarh government has announced a significant relief for vehicle owners, allowing them to reuse their preferred or choice registration numbers on new vehicles. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai at the Mahanadi Bhawan, the state secretariat.
According to Transport Secretary S. Prakash and Transport Commissioner D. Ravi Shankar, all technical preparations for this new system have been completed. Citizens whose old vehicle registrations have been legally canceled can now obtain the same number for a new vehicle in the same category or for vehicles with an NOC (No Objection Certificate) from another state.
To avail of this facility, vehicle owners will need to pay the prescribed fee online. This service will also be available for normal (non-fancy) numbers. The service applies only to new vehicles or vehicles transferred from other states. It will not apply to other vehicles already registered in Chhattisgarh.
This decision is particularly significant as it allows citizens to reuse their preferred numbers, helping them retain the emotional or professional connection associated with the old number. It also aims to make the services of the transport department more transparent and technically efficient. This initiative will provide relief to vehicle owners across the state and reduce the complexities surrounding number reservation.
