An explosion at the Chirmiri open cast coal mine in Chhattisgarh’s Manendragarh district has left three workers, including two women, with injuries. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon while a team was preparing for a routine blasting operation. Preliminary reports suggest a technical fault may have been the cause of the premature detonation. The injured workers were promptly transported to the SECL regional hospital at Kurasia and are reported to be in stable condition with minor injuries. An internal investigation is now underway to ascertain the precise reason behind the blast, with company officials and the district administration working to ensure safety protocols are reviewed. Operations at the mine have been temporarily suspended for safety assessments.
