An explosion at the Chirmiri open cast coal mine in Chhattisgarh’s Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur (MCB) district has resulted in injuries to three workers, including two women. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon as workers were preparing for a scheduled blasting operation. The workers were part of a team laying explosives on the coal bed when the blast took place unexpectedly. Rock fragments were thrown by the explosion, impacting workers and vehicles in the vicinity. Fortunately, the injured are reported to be in stable condition and are receiving medical treatment at SECL’s regional hospital in Kurasia. Initial assessments suggest a potential technical fault may have caused the premature detonation, but a thorough investigation is underway to determine the precise cause. Operations at the mine have been temporarily suspended for safety assessments.
