Chhattisgarh’s electricity consumers are set to experience a significant increase in their bills starting September. For the past 6 years and 5 months, residents in Chhattisgarh had been benefiting from a 50% discount on electricity consumption up to 400 units, resulting in halved bills. However, the government has terminated this subsidy, effective August 1st. This change will be reflected in the electricity bills received in September, with consumers expected to pay between 558 to 1223 rupees more. The state government had been providing a direct 50% discount to domestic electricity consumers who consumed up to 400 units per month since March 1, 2019. This discount was available to all consumers, regardless of their consumption levels, with those exceeding 400 units still receiving the discount on the first 400 units. Consumption above 400 units was billed at the full rate. This subsidy previously resulted in monthly savings of 558 to 1223 rupees for consumers. The discontinuation of the scheme means consumers will now pay significantly higher electricity bills, potentially disrupting their monthly budgets.
