Raigarh: A man has been arrested by the Mahila Thana police for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman for an extended period after befriending her on Facebook and promising marriage. The accused had been living with the woman in a rented house since 2022 and subsequently refused to marry her.
According to information from the Mahila Thana, the local woman filed a report on June 30, stating that she had met Dayaram Sidar (29), a resident of Salheona, Baramkela, Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district, on Facebook in 2021. After a few months, both started living together in a rented house in Raigarh.
As per the complainant, Dayaram had physical relations with her on the night of April 9, 2022, under the guise of marriage. Following this, the accused continued to sexually exploit her for nearly four years in various rented houses in Raigarh, repeatedly assuring her of marriage.
The woman alleges that Dayaram Sidar kept luring her and emotionally manipulating her, making false promises that he would marry her soon. However, when the woman repeatedly brought up the subject of marriage, the accused started making excuses, initially citing the need for a good job and eventually refusing altogether.
Based on the woman’s complaint, the Mahila Thana in-charge, Sub-Inspector Deepika Nirmalkar, registered a case against the accused under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and conducted a medical examination of the victim. Subsequently, a police team raided the accused’s home and took him into custody.
During interrogation, the accused, Dayaram Sidar, confessed to his crime, after which the police arrested him and presented him in court today, where he was sent to judicial remand.
Sub-Inspector Deepika Nirmalkar, Assistant Sub-Inspector Saraswati Mahapatre, and the accompanying staff played a commendable role in this swift action. The police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
