A shocking double murder has come to light in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh on the day of Vijayadashami. Two members of the same family were murdered in the Ghargoda police station area, in the village of Raykera. The deceased are a mother-in-law and her son-in-law. Their bodies were found inside the house, while a woman from the family was seriously injured. Police have launched an investigation after reaching the spot.
The deceased have been identified as Sukmet Sidar (80 years) and her son-in-law, Lakshman Sidar (60 years). It is suspected that both were strangled to death. Sukmet’s daughter was found seriously injured and was immediately admitted to Tingni Hospital for treatment. Doctors have described her condition as critical.
Upon receiving the information, the Ghargoda police station and the forensic team arrived at the scene. Based on the evidence found in the house and the condition of the crime scene, the police have concluded that it was a murder. Preliminary investigations suggest that the incident occurred late Thursday night. Currently, police have taken Lakshman Sidar’s son and a neighbor from the village into custody on suspicion and have begun questioning them.
According to police sources, a land compensation dispute may be the main reason behind the double murder. Recently, the elderly woman, Sukmet Sidar, had received compensation from NTPC for land acquisition. It is reported that there was an ongoing dispute in the family regarding this amount. Police suspect that the murder was committed due to this dispute.
According to information, the deceased Lakshman Sidar had been living in his in-laws’ house, i.e., Sukmet Sidar’s house, since his marriage. He has a son and two daughters. There was a tense situation within the family regarding money and property for a long time. Villagers say that this dispute deepened after the compensation money was received.
Police officials say that the cause of the murder will be clearer after the post-mortem report. No one has been formally arrested in the case yet, but three members of the family are being questioned continuously after being taken into custody.
