A shocking double murder has come to light in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh on the day of Vijaya Dashami. Two members of the same family were killed in the Ghargoda police station area, in the village of Raykera. The deceased were the mother-in-law and her son-in-law. Their bodies were found inside the house, while a woman from the family was seriously injured. Police have launched an investigation at the scene.
The deceased have been identified as Sukmet Sidar (80 years old) and her son-in-law, Laxman Sidar (60 years old). It is suspected that both were murdered by strangulation. Sukmet’s daughter was found seriously injured and was immediately admitted to Tingni Hospital for treatment. Doctors have described her condition as critical.
Upon receiving the information, the Ghargoda police station and the forensic team reached the spot. Based on the evidence found in the house and the condition of the scene, the police have considered the possibility of murder. Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred late Thursday night. Currently, the police have taken Laxman Sidar’s son and a neighbor from the village into custody on suspicion and have begun questioning them.
According to police sources, a land compensation dispute may be the main reason behind this double murder. Recently, the elderly woman, Sukmet Sidar, received compensation from NTPC for land acquisition. It is reported that there was an ongoing dispute in the family over this amount. Police suspect that the murder was carried out due to this dispute.
According to information, the deceased, Laxman Sidar, had been living in his in-law’s house, Sukmet Sidar’s house, since his marriage. He has one son and two daughters. There had been a tense situation within the family for a long time regarding money and property. Villagers say that this dispute deepened after the compensation amount was received.
Police officers say that the reason for the murder will become clearer after the post-mortem report is received. No one has been formally arrested in the case yet, but three members of the family have been taken into custody and are being continuously questioned.
