Chhattisgarh Prepares for UCC: Suggestions Sought from Public on Uniform Civil Code

Suggestions can be submitted until October 15

Raipur, The Chhattisgarh government is rapidly moving towards implementing the 'Uniform Civil Code' (UCC) in the state. The special committee, formed with the objective of bringing all citizens under a single constitutional umbrella instead of religion-based personal laws, has now invited suggestions and opinions from the general public and various organizations. Citizens of the state can provide input on what the new law in the state should be like. This 5-member committee, constituted by the state government, is studying the need for UCC in Chhattisgarh and its framework. Along with this, the committee will also conduct a comprehensive review of existing laws and systems related to personal civil matters. The committee has appealed to governmental, non-governmental organizations, social groups, religious institutions, communities, and political parties to submit their views, opinions, and representations by October 15, 2026.

Chhattisgarh to become the 5th state in the country to implement UCC

Uttarakhand was the first state in the country to implement UCC. Besides Uttarakhand, UCC has also been implemented in Goa, Gujarat, Assam, and Madhya Pradesh. A 5-member high-level committee has been formed under the chairmanship of retired Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai for the implementation and suggestions regarding UCC in the state.
