A startling picture of the education system in Chhattisgarh has emerged. A government school in the Dhamtari district has only three students enrolled, yet it has two teachers – a headmaster and an assistant teacher. The education department spends lakhs of rupees annually to run this school. The primary school is located in Nathukonha, Dhamtari district.
Classes from first to fifth grade are conducted in this school, but there are hardly any students. Only three children are studying in the school, all in the first grade. They are taught by a headmaster and an assistant teacher. The education department spends approximately 10 to 12 lakh rupees annually on these two teachers. In addition, there are separate expenses for school maintenance, stationery, mid-day meals, electricity, water, and other utilities.
