In Chhattisgarh, the Mahtari Vandan Yojana, a key initiative of the BJP government, has seen the removal of over 3,399 names of women beneficiaries from Bastar district within a year. Among these, 1,923 beneficiaries were removed due to their demise. The remaining women were delisted because of discrepancies in their documentation or because they were employed in government service while still receiving benefits from the scheme. According to Manoj Sinha, the Women and Child Development Officer, the release of funds in some cases occurred because information about deaths was received late. Recovery of these funds is now underway. The scheme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year from Kashi, provided the first installment to approximately 194,000 women in the district in its first month. The 19th installment has been disbursed this month. However, hundreds of women are still excluded due to missed registrations, inactive Aadhaar cards, or recent eligibility. Registration efforts have commenced in Naxal-affected areas. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Women and Child Development Minister Laxmi Rajwade have announced the reopening of the registration portal. The Women and Child Development Officer stated that while new registrations are not being conducted in Bastar district, registration of Naxal victims is underway in Naxal-affected areas. The department has currently placed suspicious beneficiaries on an investigation list and is recovering funds from those who have improperly received benefits.
