An explosion at the Chirmiri open cast coal mine in Chhattisgarh’s Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur (MCB) district has left three workers injured. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon while a team was preparing for a routine blasting operation. According to officials, seven to eight workers were laying explosives on the coal bed when a sudden blast took place. Rock fragments were ejected, striking workers and vehicles in the vicinity. The injured, including two women, were promptly transported to the SECL regional hospital at Kurasia in Chirmiri. They sustained minor injuries and are reported to be in stable condition, with no danger to their lives. An internal investigation is now underway to determine the precise cause, with initial assessments suggesting a possible technical fault. Operations at the mine have been temporarily suspended pending safety evaluations. Authorities are reviewing safety protocols to prevent future occurrences.
