In the Chhattisgarh state assembly, Congress MLAs created a ruckus, demanding a discussion on the shortage of fertilizers and seeds in the state. After the question hour, the Leader of the Opposition, Dr. Charandas Mahant, sought a discussion, questioning the reason behind the government’s inability to provide fertilizers, forcing farmers to buy them at inflated prices. He alleged that the government was creating a shortage of fertilizers, leading to lower yields for farmers.
Former CM Bhupesh Baghel supported the demand, highlighting the fertilizer scarcity in the state and urging for a discussion by suspending the assembly proceedings. Former minister Umesh Patel also emphasized the issue, stating that farmers were agitated due to the lack of DAP fertilizers and advocating for a discussion on the matter.
Responding to the opposition’s proposal, Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh sought a response from the Agriculture Minister. Agriculture Minister Ram Vichar Netam, while addressing the admissibility of the adjournment motion, dismissed the opposition’s allegations, asserting that there was no shortage of fertilizers and seeds in the state. Consequently, he deemed a discussion on the adjournment motion unnecessary. The Congress MLAs protested and shouted slogans in the House after the minister’s statement. Subsequently, all Congress MLAs entered the well of the House, leading to their suspension from the proceedings.
