Cooperative Growth Debated at NCDC's 93rd General Council

A high-level national deliberation on revitalising the cooperative movement took place in New Delhi. The 93rd General Council meeting of the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), presided over by Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, brought together senior officials and cooperative representatives from across the country.

Raipur-based Shashikant Dwivedi, who heads the Chhattisgarh State Cooperative Marketing Federation (MARKFED), attended the meeting as the state's representative.

Agenda: Stronger Institutions and Rural Income

Participants discussed ways to make cooperative bodies financially sound and structurally robust. Other subjects included how cooperatives could give greater momentum to farmers and the rural economy.

Dwivedi's Remarks on NCDC

Dwivedi spoke about the role played by NCDC and reviewed the organisation's progress during the past five years. He observed that the corporation, set up in 1963 to support the cooperative sector, has achieved several new milestones recently.

He said the improvement reflects the direction provided by Amit Shah, under whose guidance the cooperative sector has accelerated.

Chhattisgarh's Agenda for Rural Development

He also presented Chhattisgarh's approach to using cooperatives for farmers and village economies. According to him, the state government has placed clear priorities on cooperative strengthening, and the aim is to enable societies to undertake larger economic activities in rural areas.

He emphasised that Chhattisgarh, being an agriculture-based state, stands to benefit significantly from a resilient cooperative network.

Main Objective of the Meeting

The 93rd NCDC meeting was designed to carry forward the goal of prosperity through cooperation and to bolster the financial and basic capacity of cooperative institutions. The deliberations are expected to suggest fresh directions and openings for the sector's growth.

With the MARKFED chairman's participation, Chhattisgarh's cooperative concerns and priorities have found a place on the national platform.
