Coordinate with urban bodies for provision of drains, underground cables, pipelines during construction of city roads

May 27, 2026. Public Works Department Secretary Mr. Mukesh Kumar Bansal reviewed the works of both divisions of the Raipur region today. In a meeting held at the PWD Headquarters Construction Building in Nava Raipur, he took information from the officers about the progress of sanctioned, under-construction, and tender process works in both divisions and gave necessary instructions. He asked to repair all roads and make them pothole-free before monsoon. Public Works Department Chief Engineer Mr. V.K. Bhatpahari, Chief Engineer Mr. P.M. Kashyap, and Mr. T.R. Kunjam were also present in the meeting. In the meeting, the Secretary of the Public Works Department instructed the officers to prepare a priority list of sanctioned works for the current financial year 2026-27 and the previous financial year 2025-26 and send it by June 10. He also asked to send the estimates for all these works by July 31. He instructed to ensure the optimal utilization of government funds and the full functionality and sustainability of the works being done by the department to benefit the maximum number of citizens. He emphasized the quality of construction and construction materials in every construction work and asked to complete the works within the stipulated time. The departmental secretary instructed all officers from sub-divisional officers to chief engineer to remain at the headquarters throughout the day every Tuesday. While reviewing the progress of building and road construction works in the Raipur region, he instructed the officers to work with comprehensive plans for flyovers on all road stretches in accordance with future needs. He also asked to work with a plan for widening bridges and culverts and National Highway sections in road widening projects. Mr. Bansal said that quality and time-bound work is the highest priority of the government. Departmental officers should build a good image of the department among citizens and public representatives through their well-organized and timely work. All works should be carried out with full accountability, proactivity, and seriousness. He asked to reorganize the four divisions of Raipur Division No.-1 and re-divide their work areas for the convenience of works in Raipur and Nava Raipur and administrative efficiency in the department's work. He asked the departmental officers to coordinate with the concerned urban body before the construction of roads within the city to make advance provisions for drains, underground cable fittings, pipelines, etc., for the future, so that the need for repeated excavation of roads is avoided. He asked the officers to keep full information about the condition of roads in their work areas and to immediately get repairs done by the concerned contractors for roads with performance guarantees. The Secretary of the Public Works Department asked to consider traffic for the next ten years, population needs, and potential development projects in the vicinity while preparing proposals for new roads. He instructed to use good quality construction materials, windows, doors, tiles, paint, putty, sanitary fittings, taps, electric fittings, etc., in buildings and also to provide ramps and railings for the disabled in all buildings. He emphasized the plan for proper access routes, greenery, cleanliness, and boundary walls in the entire premises along with the buildings, so that the utility of the buildings can be ensured to the maximum. He asked to maintain good cleanliness by removing bushes, weeds, and garbage from the sides and dividers of all city roads. He instructed to clean the drains on both sides of the road in coordination with the Raipur Municipal Corporation, so that waterlogging does not occur on the roads due to rainwater. He also instructed to take action against those who put unauthorized advertisements, banners, posters, hoardings, and flexes on Public Works Department properties, poles, and dividers for property defacement. Superintendings Engineers of both divisions of Raipur region, Executive Engineers of all divisions, and Sub-divisional Officers were also present in the meeting.
