Cultural Evening at Lok Bhavan on the Centenary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Jharika

Raipur, September 8 2026 – On the occasion of the centenary year of Bharat Ratna and renowned musician, singer, lyricist and filmmaker Dr. Bhupen Jharika, a cultural evening was organized today at the Chhattisgarh Mandap in Lok Bhavan. The event, attended by Governor Mr. Raman Deka and Chief Minister Mr. Vishnu Dev Sai, remembered Dr. Jharika’s unparalleled contributions to art, music and culture and paid a musical tribute to his timeless works and life journey. Governor Raman Deka said that Dr. Bhupen Jharika’s music was not merely a form of entertainment but a deep expression of society, culture, nature, human sensitivity and national unity. Through his songs and music he worked to connect India’s diverse cultural traditions. His compositions continue to convey messages of social harmony, brotherhood and human values. During the cultural evening, artists from Indira Kala and Music University, Khairagarh presented a dance‑drama based on Dr. Bhupen Jharika’s life and works, bringing his creations and journey to life through dance. Artists from Mahakalibadi and Vishwanath Temple Committee, Pandri, Raipur performed emotive musical renditions of the famous songs sung by Dr. Jharika. Governor Raman Deka appreciated the performances and presented souvenir items to the artists as an honor. The occasion was also attended by the first lady Mrs. Rani Deka Kakoti, legislator Mr. Purandar Mishra, Mr. Anuj Sharma, Secretary of the Urban Administration and Development Department Mr. Sonmani Bora, Governor’s Secretary Dr. C. R. Prasanna, Secretary of the Culture Department Dr. S. Bharti Dasan and other distinguished guests.
