Dhamtari Murder: Revenge for Friend's Killing Behind Attack

A sensational murder has been reported from Mujgahan village on the outskirts of Dhamtari city in Chhattisgarh. A 22-year-old man was killed in a sharp weapon attack that also left his cousin critically hurt. The deceased was the only son of a former village sarpanch.

Deepanshu alias Deep Sahu, son of former sarpanch Chandrashekhar Sahu, died in the assault. His cousin Vikas is under treatment at the district hospital after suffering serious injuries.

The crime took place late on October 21, in Mujbanhan, which lies about three kilometres from the city. Between five and seven masked men, reportedly from Ratnabandha and Panchvati Colony, attacked the two cousins around 9:30 pm. Police believe the attack was rooted in an old rivalry. Deepanshu later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Avenging a Friend's Death

Avenging the murder of a friend is considered the main motive behind the incident. Police have registered a case against unidentified accused and begun a detailed investigation. Four accused were taken into custody by Thursday evening and sent to judicial remand. Some suspects remain absconding, and police are working to locate them.

Background and Police Statement

According to early investigation, Deepanshu and Vikas had been sent to jail on remand around two years ago in the murder case of Amit Goswami, a Mujgahan resident. Both were subsequently granted bail.

CSP Abhishek Chaturvedi stated that masked miscreants attacked two youths in Mujgahan, causing Deepanshu's death. Vikas is currently receiving medical care. Police suspect the killing stems from an old enmity. Four accused have been remanded, and the remaining accused will be arrested soon.
