A tragic incident in Korba district has once again highlighted the ongoing issue of human-elephant conflict. A man lost his life after being attacked by an elephant, which fatally trampled him. The incident occurred in the Pasān range of the Katghora block, specifically in the village of Tanera. The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Dhan Singh God, a farmer. The attack took place on Sunday night when the elephant entered the village. Dhan Singh God encountered the animal, which then chased and ultimately killed him. Upon receiving the news, villagers gathered at the scene and alerted the Forest Department. Officials from the Forest Department arrived and provided the family of the deceased with an immediate financial assistance of ₹25,000 from the state government. Residents were cautioned to remain vigilant. The Forest Department has also advised villagers to avoid venturing into the forest. This incident is part of a disturbing trend in Korba district, where elephant attacks have become increasingly frequent, causing damage to crops and homes. The ongoing threat has led some villagers to consider abandoning their homes.
