The final journey of ASP Akash Rao, who was martyred in a Naxal IED blast in Konta, Sukma, commenced from his residence in Kushalpur, Raipur. Slogans of ‘As long as the sun and moon endure, your name will live on, Akash’ echoed as the procession began. The Collector, Municipal Commissioner, CEO of the District Panchayat, officials, family members, and a large gathering of people participated in the solemn event. The atmosphere was filled with grief and respect. The mortal remains of the martyr Akash Rao were en route to Mana for the final tribute.
Akash Rao Giripunje, a resident of Raipur, was a 2013 batch officer of the State Police Service. He left his banking job to clear the Chhattisgarh PCS exam and became a police officer. He was martyred on Monday in a pressure IED blast laid by Naxals in the Konta area of Sukma, in which several other policemen were injured. Akash Rao had received several gallantry awards for his bravery and integrity. His martyrdom has caused deep sorrow throughout the police force and the city.
