Lakshika Sahu, Raipur. The political temperature has increased once again due to the Kumhari toll plaza located between Raipur and Durg in Chhattisgarh. Former MLA and Congress leader Vikas Upadhyay has written a letter to 10 MPs of the Bharatiya Janata Party demanding the closure of this toll plaza soon.
Upadhyay said in the letter that the contract for toll plaza has ended in 2015, which was increased to 2020. But still toll collection is being done illegally, which is not only against the rules but is also putting unnecessary economic burden on the people of Chhattisgarh.
He demanded intervention from Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on this issue and urged BJP MPs to talk to Gadkari at their level and close this toll plaza.
Vikas Upadhyay also alleged that BJP MP Brijmohan Agrawal had met Gadkari on 18 December 2024 to close the toll, but no concrete steps have been taken so far. He called it a “false announcement in the media” and said that the people of Chhattisgarh have been misled.
Allegations and demands of Vikas Upadhyay
The tender of pottery toll plaza finished, yet illegal recovery continues. Additional economic burden on local citizens, drivers and traders due to illegal recovery. Demand from BJP MPs: Discuss with Nitin Gadkari, stop toll. Strict action against guilty agencies/individuals and demand for creating a permanent monitoring mechanism for the future. Despite the constant movements and demonstrations from the Congress, the central government accused of apathy.
Vikas Upadhyay reiterated that almost half of the population of Chhattisgarh is affected by this toll in some form, so it is anti -people to continue it.
