Monsoon rains have wreaked havoc across the region. In the mountains, these monsoonal downpours have become a disaster, with a village in Uttarakhand’s Dharali being washed away by a flood. Himachal Pradesh has also been severely impacted by the heavy rains. Several plain areas are also experiencing difficult conditions due to the rainfall. The national capital, Delhi, and the surrounding NCR region have received significant rainfall in the last 24 hours.
The entire Delhi NCR area is experiencing pleasant weather with light drizzles and showers. Cool winds are also prevailing. This weather pattern is expected to continue, with rain likely to persist in Delhi NCR until August 11th. During this period, the region will experience thunderstorms along with intermittent light to heavy rainfall.
Heavy rainfall is expected to impact six districts in Uttar Pradesh, with the weather department issuing a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in several parts of the state, including Moradabad, Bijnor, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, and surrounding areas. Light rain is expected in a few places in eastern UP.
Heavy rainfall is also anticipated in several districts of Uttarakhand, including Rudrapur, Udham Singh Nagar, Champawat, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Almora, Bageshwar, Uttarkashi, and Pauri Garhwal. The next 24 hours are critical for Uttarakhand and the Terai region in terms of rainfall. Water levels in rivers and lakes in these mountainous areas may rise, potentially leading to adverse conditions. Therefore, preparedness for any emergency situation is essential.
Over the next 24 hours, many places in western UP, Punjab, eastern Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, and Lakshadweep are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall. Light rain may occur in eastern Rajasthan, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir.
Northeastern India, West Bengal, Bihar, eastern Uttar Pradesh, north-central Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, parts of Maharashtra, interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Konkan, and Goa may experience light to moderate rainfall.
