In Bijapur district, security forces successfully neutralized a potential Naxal attack by defusing a powerful IED. During a demining operation on the Gorna-Mankeli route on Saturday, a 10-kilogram command IED was discovered and rendered harmless on the spot. The discovery came the day after a young man was brutally murdered by Naxals in the same village, creating an atmosphere of fear. The Naxals had planned to target the security forces by planting the explosive on the road, but their plot was foiled. The joint operation involved the DRG Bijapur, the Bijapur police station, and the BDS team. During the search, security personnel noticed an electric wire along the road, prompting them to cordon off the area and conduct an intensive search. The search led to the discovery of the IED, hidden inside a steel tiffin box and connected to an electric wire spanning approximately 70 to 80 meters. The BDS team, with expertise and caution, carefully defused the explosive. A video of the operation is available. According to officials, the Naxals intended to harm both security forces and civilians. However, the swift action of the security forces prevented a major incident, thwarting the Naxals’ plans.
