Finance Minister OP Choudhary announced that the world will celebrate the 11th International Yoga Day on June 21, 2025, with the theme ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health.’ He highlighted the significant impact of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts in promoting yoga, which has transformed into a global movement. The Indian yoga-based economy has exceeded ₹20,000 crore, with over 1 lakh certified yoga instructors teaching in 190 countries. A recent survey revealed that approximately 8% of Indian households have at least one member practicing yoga regularly, indicating its integration into the Indian lifestyle. Choudhary emphasized yoga’s role in promoting a healthy and balanced life in the face of rising diseases and population. He also mentioned the scientific significance of celebrating Yoga Day on June 21, the longest day of the year, marking the beginning of Dakshinayan, a period believed to affect immunity. The Finance Minister discussed the historical roots of yoga, linking it to the ancient tradition and the teachings of Adiyogi Shiva and later, Maharishi Patanjali. He noted the proposal by PM Modi at the UN, which led to the unanimous support of 177 countries, signifying the victory of India’s cultural heritage. BJP leaders, including Sanjay Srivastava, also emphasized the importance of yoga in modern life and the party’s commitment to celebrating Yoga Day at all levels.
