Investigation Launched into Alleged Deception Over Job, Salary and Land in Bilaspur Wedding

Authorities in Bilaspur have opened an investigation after a newly‑wedded woman reported that her husband’s pre‑marriage claims about education, employment and property were false. The groom, identified as Harshdeep Ram Jari, had presented himself as a BITS Pilani graduate with a B.Tech degree, employed in Jaipur with a 48‑lakh‑rupee annual package.

He also asserted that his family owned a substantial tract of land—estimated between 150 and 200 acres—and that his father’s business generated an annual turnover of 88 lakh rupees. The bride, a doctoral candidate at Guru Ghasidas Central University, says these assurances influenced her family’s decision to consent to the marriage held on 12 March 2026.

Post‑wedding, the bride discovered discrepancies in the groom’s credentials and suspects that some of the wedding jewelry was fake. She alleges that a total of 6.76 lakh rupees changed hands between her family and the groom’s side.

Police have recorded an FIR against the groom and his parents, and are now scrutinising bank statements, land registry entries, employment records and the authenticity of the jewelry. The probe aims to verify whether the alleged financial and educational misrepresentations constitute criminal fraud.

The case adds to a series of recent reports of matrimonial scams in central India, prompting calls for stricter verification processes before marriage.
