Raipur, A strong foundation for prevention against serious diseases like cervical cancer is being laid in Chhattisgarh. Under the Central Government's HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccination program, more than 1.49 lakh adolescent girls in the state have been administered the HPV vaccine. This vaccine is effective in significantly reducing the risk of cervical cancer in the future. This is why it is considered one of the most effective preventive measures for women's health protection worldwide.
Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers found in women. Health experts believe that most cases of this disease can be prevented through timely HPV vaccination and awareness. With this objective, the Health and Family Welfare Department is running a comprehensive public awareness campaign alongside ensuring vaccination reaches eligible adolescent girls across the state.
Under the campaign, health department teams are visiting schools, Anganwadi centers, and health institutions to provide information to adolescent girls and their guardians about HPV infection, the risks of cervical cancer, and the benefits of vaccination. The department's endeavor is to ensure that every adolescent girl in the eligible age group receives this protective shield and no daughter is deprived of this important vaccine due to lack of information in any family.
Experts explain that HPV infection is the primary cause of cervical cancer. The HPV vaccine administered during adolescence reduces the risk of infection and also significantly lowers the probability of developing cervical cancer later in life.
