A man from Chhattisgarh, identified as Hemant Chandravanshi, sparked a frantic search operation after his clothes and slippers were found near the Gangrel Dam in Dhamtari. Authorities presumed he had drowned, prompting a 12-day search involving police and divers. The investigation took a surprising turn when the man was located in Delhi, where he had been hiding. It has been revealed that Chandravanshi faked his death due to mounting debt. On May 24, Chandravanshi, a resident of Kawardha, visited Dhamtari with friends and stayed at a resort near the dam. The next day, while bathing, he asked his companions to fetch something from a nearby shop. Upon their return, they found his belongings but no sign of him. His friends reported him missing to the Rudri police. Initial searches focused on the possibility of drowning. When the search yielded no results, the police grew suspicious. They then tracked his phone and discovered his location in Delhi. Authorities apprehended him and brought him back to Dhamtari. Preliminary inquiries indicate that Chandravanshi was under severe financial strain, which led him to stage the incident.
