Relief is on the horizon for the people of Chhattisgarh as the southwest monsoon has arrived at the state’s border. According to weather forecasts, the monsoon is likely to enter the state within the next 24 to 48 hours. It is expected to first make its presence felt in the Bastar region before gradually spreading across the entire state, including Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, and Surguja, bringing with it heavy rainfall. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipates that the monsoon will cover the whole of Chhattisgarh by June 15th, ushering in a period of consistent rainfall. This will provide significant respite to farmers, the general public, and those weary of the scorching heat. Despite a higher-than-average rainfall of 5,050 mm in May, which is approximately 11 times the normal average, the beginning of June saw temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius, impacting daily life. The arrival of the monsoon is expected to completely change the weather pattern. The Bastar division is expected to experience the first showers, followed by Surguja, Raipur, Durg, and Bilaspur. The administration has appealed to citizens to remain vigilant against potential issues like power outages, waterlogging, and thunderstorms.
