More than 40 thousand pregnant women examined in two days under Prime Minister’s Safe Motherhood Campaign
Campaign held in 843 health institutions, timely identification and management of more than 10 thousand high-risk pregnancies

Raipur, Under the ambitious scheme of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar” campaign, special health sessions are being organized in Chhattisgarh regarding maternal safety. Under the Prime Minister’s Safe Motherhood Campaign (PMSMA), more than 40 thousand pregnant women participated in these sessions organized in 843 government health institutions of the state on September 24 and 25. They were provided free health check-ups, counseling and treatment facilities.
The main objective of this special campaign based on the theme “Chhattisgarh’s Mother, Responsibility of All” is to reduce the maternal mortality rate in the state and to identify high-risk pregnant women in a timely manner and provide them with proper treatment. This campaign, conducted by the Health Department, not only strengthened the reach of health services, but also encouraged public participation and increased public awareness regarding maternal safety.
Important health services like hemoglobin, blood pressure, weight, blood tests, ultrasound and nutrition counseling were provided in these sessions. During this time, about 10 thousand women were identified in the category of ‘High-Risk Pregnancy’ and brought under the consultation and continuous monitoring of specialist doctors, so that timely treatment of potential complications could be possible.
Ultrasound of more than 6 thousand women was also done under the campaign. This enabled concrete action towards timely identification and treatment of complications. Especially these services proved to be particularly beneficial for the women of remote areas.
187 sessions were directly inspected by senior officials at the state and district levels to monitor the program. This inspection was important to ensure the quality of services, transparency of processes and the real reach of services to the beneficiaries.
Expert medical services reached every primary health center in Bilaspur district
Under this campaign, Bilaspur district presented a remarkable example in the field of maternal health. With the help of the Federation of Obstetric and Gynecological Societies of India and the Indian Medical Association, expert medical services were delivered to every primary health center in the district.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai said that with the resolve of Chhattisgarh’s Mother, Responsibility of All, our government is giving top priority to maternal and child health. The examination of more than 40 thousand pregnant women and the identification of more than 10 thousand high-risk pregnant women in two days under the Prime Minister’s Safe Motherhood Campaign is proof that our health services are also reaching remote areas effectively. Reducing the maternal mortality rate and providing safe motherhood to every sister is our commitment, and this is not just a matter of health but a strong foundation for a strong family and a prosperous society.
Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal said that the comprehensive level of examination, counseling and treatment facilities for pregnant women across the state under the Prime Minister’s Safe Motherhood Campaign reflects the seriousness of our government towards maternal health. The examination of more than 40 thousand women and the identification of more than 10 thousand high-risk pregnancies in two days proves that a significant reduction in the maternal mortality rate can be achieved through timely check-ups and expert services.
Main objective of the campaign
The main objective of this campaign is to provide complete check-up, counseling and treatment facilities to pregnant women on time. Under this, teams of specialist doctors along with local doctors examined women’s anemia, blood pressure, sugar levels, fetal condition, weight etc. Along with this, information related to antenatal care, nutrition, safe delivery and newborn care was also provided. This initiative will not only reduce the maternal mortality rate, but also for the first time, expert services will be made easily available to women in rural and remote areas. The Prime Minister’s Safe Motherhood Campaign is organized on the 9th and 24th of every month, but keeping in view the “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar” campaign, the department has extended its scope for three additional days in the month of September, so that not even a single pregnant woman is deprived of essential health services.
