Mountain states receive storm warnings; Himachal and Uttarakhand brace for downpours

The Himalayan belt is preparing for a bout of severe weather as the monsoon persists. In Uttarakhand, districts such as Nainital, Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Almora, Rudraprayag, Udham Singh Nagar, Bageshwar and Champawat are under a heavy rain and hail alert. Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur, Shimla, Sirmaur, Hamirpur, Solan, Kullu, Bilaspur and Chamba have received warnings for intense rainstorms and hail.

Jammu & Kashmir also reports localized heavy rain and thunderstorm alerts across several districts. Residents in these high‑altitude areas are urged to remain cautious, secure loose objects, and heed any evacuation orders from local authorities.

South‑western coastal states, such as Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu, are experiencing scattered thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds, especially along the coastline. The weather department advises fishermen and commuters to exercise extra care during travel.
