Naib Tehsildars across Chhattisgarh have begun an indefinite strike today, focusing on their 17-point charter of demands. Prior to the strike, over 500 Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars held a demonstration at the Tuta Dharna Sthal. The Tehsildar Association has stated that they will not resume work until their demands, including the provision of adequate resources, are met. The strike action follows the association’s decision to press for their demands.
Key demands include the appointment of sufficient staff in every tehsil (computer operators, peons, patwaris, revenue inspectors, etc.), transparency in the promotion process for Deputy Collector positions with a 50:50 ratio (direct recruitment and promotion), gazetted officer status for Naib Tehsildars, improvements in grade pay for Tehsildars, the provision of government vehicles and drivers for all tehsils, prompt reinstatement in cases of suspension with investigations completed within 15 days, exclusion of court matters from public complaints, adherence to the Judge Protection Act 1985 to prevent FIRs on judicial orders, separate arrangements for court work from protocol duty, authority for Tehsildars to recruit staff through outsourcing, the appointment of trained operators for technical tasks such as the Swamitva scheme, land records, and e-courts, reappointment of SLR and ASLR, the provision of government mobile numbers to maintain the privacy of personal numbers, the availability of security guards and vehicles for field work in every tehsil, the establishment of clear guidelines for immediate compensation in road accidents, recognition of the association by the government to facilitate dialogue and problem-solving, and the formation of an expert committee to reform revenue courts.
