Nano Urea and Nano DAP Becoming New Choices for Farmers in Changing Agriculture

Raipur May 29, 2026/Amidst the challenges arising from increasing costs in agriculture, declining soil fertility, and excessive use of chemical fertilizers, nano urea and nano DAP have now become a useful and popular option for farmers. Agricultural scientists believe that if farmers use them in a balanced and scientific manner, it can help in reducing farming costs, improving production, and maintaining soil quality. According to experts, changes in fertilizer usage methods will be necessary to make agriculture sustainable and profitable in the future. This is why farmers are increasingly interested in nano fertilizers. In most paddy-producing regions of the country, including Chhattisgarh, generally 2 to 3 bags of urea and 1 bag of DAP are used per acre. At current prices, one bag of urea costs approximately Rs 270 and one bag of DAP costs approximately Rs 1350. Thus, around Rs 1900 to Rs 2200 is spent per acre on urea and DAP alone. According to agricultural experts, the effect of one 500 ml bottle of nano urea is considered equivalent to one bag of conventional urea. The need for conventional urea can be significantly reduced through spraying in two stages during the crop cycle. If farmers use 2 bottles of nano urea instead of 2 bags of solid urea, there is an estimated saving of Rs 100 per acre. The cost of two bags of conventional urea is approximately Rs 540. In its place, 2 bottles of nano urea cost around Rs 450-500. This means direct savings in fertilizer costs, as well as a reduction in transportation, storage, and labor expenses. Similarly, agricultural experts believe that instead of using the full quantity of 50 kg DAP, if farmers use 500 ml of nano DAP along with 25 kg of DAP, there is a saving of approximately Rs 75 to Rs 150 per acre. According to agricultural scientists, a large portion of conventional urea is lost in soil, water, and the environment. In contrast, the fine particles of nano urea are rapidly absorbed by plants directly. This provides balanced nutrition to the plants. Experts state that when used in a balanced way, several positive results have been observed. Crop growth is better. Plant greenness is maintained for a longer period. Grain filling is stronger. Production quality improves. Fertilizer use efficiency increases. Several agricultural trials have also indicated yield increases of 5 to 8 percent. Experts in the agricultural sector state that the continuous use of large quantities of chemical fertilizers affects the natural fertility of the soil. Balanced use of nano fertilizers can help maintain the balance of nutrients in the soil. Additionally, chemical residues are reduced. Groundwater pollution decreases. Soil biological activity remains better. Environmental impact is reduced. This is why emphasis is being placed more on balanced fertilizer use in scientific agriculture. According to scientific advice, increasing the balanced use of nano fertilizers will reduce dependence on imported fertilizers. Foreign exchange will also be saved. The fertilizer industry in the country will be promoted. Employment in production units will increase. The agricultural sector will move towards self-reliance. According to the agriculture department, sufficient stock of conventional fertilizers is available in the state, and farmers do not need to worry. Currently, in the cooperatives of Raipur district, the availability of urea is 9,102 metric tons and the total stored urea quantity is 10,732 metric tons, while the availability of DAP is 3,092 metric tons and the total stored DAP quantity is 3,927 metric tons. Along with this, the availability of nano urea and nano DAP is also being increased through agriculture service centers and cooperatives so that farmers can use these options based on their needs and utility. Agricultural experts believe that in the coming times, the coordination of scientific farming, balanced fertilizer use, and modern technologies will make agriculture more profitable. Nano urea and nano DAP are considered an important technological option in this direction, which can prove useful for farmers on all three fronts of low cost, better production, and soil protection.
