In Chhattisgarh, a recent IED blast in Sukma district, orchestrated by Naxalites, resulted in the martyrdom of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Akash Rao Giripunje. Several other police personnel sustained injuries in the incident. The explosion occurred near the village of Dondra on Monday morning, during a patrol conducted in light of a bandh called by Naxalites. The injured were immediately transported to the hospital in Konta. ASP Giripunje, who was critically injured, succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The incident has prompted an intensified search operation in the area. Deputy CM Vijay Shamra expressed grief, acknowledging ASP Giripunje’s bravery and service. This event is another instance of violence amidst ongoing anti-Naxal operations in the state, which have achieved success in certain areas. The IED blast highlights the persistent challenges faced by security forces in their efforts to eliminate Naxalism, with the aim of achieving this by March 2026.
