A significant development has emerged from Chhattisgarh, shedding light on the digital security practices of Naxals. Press releases issued by the Naxals indicate their use of ProtonMail for securing their data. This email service, provided by the Swiss company Proton Technologies AG, is renowned for its robust privacy features.
The email ID provided by the Naxals for contact purposes is not a standard email service, but rather a part of the ProtonMail service, which is known for its secure data communication capabilities. The use of ProtonMail has previously been confirmed in connection with the terrorist organization ISIS.
A petition was filed in court to restrict ProtonMail services in India. The Karnataka High Court has directed the central government to block ProtonMail within the country. This order followed a case involving the sending of obscene and offensive emails to a female employee.
