Police Probe Theft of Bank Check from Employer’s Closet

The City Kotwali police have launched a formal investigation after a domestic worker allegedly stole a cheque from her employer’s wardrobe and tried to withdraw 85,000 rupees using a counterfeit signature.

According to the complaint, the accused was familiar with the household’s storage areas, which enabled her to locate the cheque hidden among personal items. She then forged the account holder’s signature and presented the document at a nearby SBI branch.

Bank staff detected the discrepancy and, after confirming with the account holder, blocked the transaction. The police have now recorded a criminal case against the maid, collecting the stolen cheque, related banking paperwork, and any forensic evidence that may reveal the forgery technique.

Investigators are also reviewing CCTV footage from the residence and the bank to trace the suspect’s movements. The case highlights the vulnerability of private homes where staff have unrestricted access to financial documents.

The police have urged other households to secure sensitive paperwork and monitor staff activities closely to prevent similar incidents.
