A tragic road accident involving an official vehicle of an SDM (Sub-Divisional Magistrate) resulted in the death of a five-month pregnant woman in Bilaspur. The accident also left the woman’s husband and two children injured. The driver fled the scene after the collision. Local residents located the vehicle and handed it over to the police, demanding action. The accident occurred on August 9th, Raksha Bandhan, near Turkadhi under the Koni police station area. Sumit Suryavanshi, a resident of Devri village, was en route to Semartal with his wife Hemlata, their 7-year-old daughter Minti, and 10-year-old son Rishu to celebrate Raksha Bandhan. Hemlata was planning to tie rakhis to her brothers. However, a speeding government vehicle struck their motorcycle from behind, causing a severe impact. Hemlata died instantly, while Sumit and both children sustained serious injuries. The vehicle, reportedly belonging to SDM Richa Chandrakar of Pendra Road, was later found by villagers who subsequently turned it over to the police station. The police have registered an FIR and initiated an investigation. The driver’s identification is underway, and the police have assured that strict action will be taken. Rishu remains hospitalized at SIMS, while the daughter has been discharged. The husband’s treatment is ongoing. Family members and villagers are expressing anger and demanding severe punishment for those responsible.
